Beary Cozy-Children's Hoodie Sewing Class
Child-size Hoodie Sewing Workshop
Join us for a fun, two-part sewing workshop where you'll learn to make super cute children's hoodies. We'll guide you through the whole process; from choosing the perfect, snuggly fabric to a completed hoodie your favorite little human will never want to take off!
Supply List:
Fabric
- Main Fabric: 1 to 1.5 yards (depending on child's size).
- From least to most challenging: cotton lycra, French terry, or fleece. Look for at least 20% stretch.
- Think a heavyweight t-shirt in terms of weight and stretch
- Accent Fabric: 1/4 yard of coordinating fabric for cuffs, waistband, and hood binding.
- Second Accent Fabric (for advanced beginners): If you are confident on your sewing machine, you may have time to add pink centers to your ears or a flat tail applique on the back of your hoodie. You’ll need coordinating fabric in the appropriate colors! Smaller pieces like pink centers can be made with craft felt.
Notions
- Needles: One pack of ballpoint or stretch needles (Size 80/12 or 90/14). Crucial to prevent skipped stitches!
- Thread: 1 spool of all-purpose polyester thread in a matching color.
- Marking Tool: Tailor’s chalk, a water-soluble fabric pen or pencil. I like Pilot Frixion markers for cotton and French terry, and tailor’s chalk for fleece.
Tools
- Your Sewing Machine
- Cutting: Fabric scissors - must be used only for fabric as paper dulls blades and scissors used for paper will not cut fabric cleanly
- Pinning: Standard sewing pins or "Wonder Clips" I prefer clips, especially if your fabric is thick
- Measuring: A flexible tape measure or a clear sewing ruler.
- Quilt Pattern (Free) download via the link below
Note on Pre-washing: Please wash and dry your fabric before class! Knit fabrics often shrink, and you want to ensure the hoodie fits perfectly after its first wash.
